Innovations are Helping A Book Vendor Save Money

The Internet places some pretty heavy, fast-paced demands on merchants who need to offer fast, accurate service and same-day shipping guarantees. Internet customers can choose between a number of vendors, so if one seller doesn't get their order right, they are not likely to shop online there again. In order to meet the needs of customers accurately and cheaply, Koen Book Distributors of Moorestown, New Jersey, is using a special dimensional weighing system supplied by KG Systems of Hanover, New Jersey.

The system measures and weighs the books before shipping. The computer system can accurately determine the proper box to be used, which saves packing time and labor, and enables the boxes to be labeled with a bar code that tells bookseller customers the contents of the box they receive, allowing them to add the books into their inventory by scanning the bar code on the side of the box.

The system allows Koen to double check the contents of the box without opening it again. A special load cell which interfaces with Koen's computers allows the system to accurately determine the total weight of the books in a completed shipping carton. The filled carton weight is compared with the expected weight to determine if the correct books have been included.
